Italy is an aging country. Looking for employment, young people leave, while new-formed families have the lowest birth rate in the EU. The demographic decline is one of the biggest problem for the future of the State. The province of Ferrara, in the North of Italy, holds a record in this: only one in 10 people are in their 20s here. It’s the lowest rate of citizens between 18 and 30 years of age in the whole of the country. Lagosanto, “Holylake”, is a small town that lies between Ferrara and the Adriatic sea, in the fertile fields of the Pianura Padana. Named after an old swamp, Lagosanto is the town with the smallest number of young people. We came here to see what happen when the young are gone. To listen to the voice of what’s left
